Pediatric Dentistry?

The pedodontist (the doctor who treats children teeth) participates, after graduating from the faculty, in postgraduate specialization courses for a term between 24 and 36 months.

Pediatric Dentistry

* In Romania, children are most often brought to the first dental consult when they already accuse teeth aches.

In GERMAN DENTIST we have proposed to change this faulty mentality by implementing the Happy KIDS VISIT.

Happy KIDS VISIT is the “preliminary visit” or “accommodation session” and is actually a fun and educational visit during which children are introduced to the ambient – which is especially set up for them, the play spaces, the games and toys, the treatment rooms personalized with childhood specific animation themes and, last but not least, the friendly and dedicated personnel.

Happy KIDS-VISIT - the ludic techniques and the procedures transformed into a game are especially conceived in order to develop, in time, a healthy relation between the doctor and your child.

Our dental clinic also uses innovative techniques which help your little one NOT to feel pain - profound relaxation techniques and inhalosedation.

The pedodontists of German Dental Clinic frequently visit the kinder gardens of the Capital where they perform periodical checkups of the children’s teeth, helping the little patients get used to the dentist and the dental maneuvers used in the office.

Diet and cavities

       Diet and cavities

       Sweets, fruit, vegetable, cheese...

Do you know how to eat healthy so as to keep your oral health?

* The use of pacifiers and nursing bottles with sweet liquids was correlated to the appearance of cavities in the frontal and maxillary teeth, due to the prolonged contact.

* There are also protective nutritive substances: fats and proteins are part of this category.

* We can thus explain the protective action of milk (it contains fats and proteins). Some authors think that human milk and cow milk have a decreased cariogenic potential, in comparison with the sucrose, but the human one is less protective.

* Starch also has a decreased cariogenic potential, but its effect is usually associated with that of the sugar in the pastry and confectionery products;

* Sucrose (sugar) can create great problems. The consumed quantity is less important that the form and time of the consumption;

* Fruit and vegetables favor self-cleaning.

* Chewing gum has an important role in the self-cleaning of the dental surfaces by the increase of the saliva flow and by the mastication effort. But chewing gum has sugar in it and favors the development of cavities, just as candy consumed in between meals.

Ensure a healthy smile for your children

kids brushing

Ensure a nice smile for your children

* Start brushing the teeth of your little ones as of one year old, after their teeth appear on the dental arch.

* The brushing shall be performed with tooth paste and tooth brushes adapted to the age of every child.

* Children who do not consume fluoridated water can be given fluorine supplements under the strict surveillance of the dentist.

* The feeding bottle cavity syndrome appears after the age of 12 months and is manifested by massive destructions of the structures of the teeth, especially of the superior incisors. In order to prevent the feeding bottle cavity syndrome, children aged more than 12 months must be trained to give up on the feeding bottle especially during night time.

* The first dental consult consult should be scheduled at the age of 12 months.

* It is very difficult for a child to visit the dentist for the first time when he/she is in pain, without the parents being able to identify the source of the pain.

Fluoridation  - Pediatric Dentistry

The World Health Organization recommends four methods for the primary prevention of dental cavities:

~ general and local fluoridation

~ food and oral-dental hygiene

~ teeth sealing

What are the sealants?

Sealing - a method for the prevention of dental cavities -

* On the occlusal face (the one with which we chew) of the lateral teeth there is a relief made of protrusions (ridges), delimitated by small holes (grooves and recesses). The layer of enamel of the tooth does not create a perfect covering. The occlusal faces are the most vulnerable to dental cavities.

* Oral bacteria and food remains can fix at this level, determining the development of cavities. These grooves and recesses are place where, because of their specific retentive form, as well as the quality of the enamel at this level, cavities are most likely to develop.

* This can be prevented by their coverage with special materials, procedure called sealing.

Special needs children

Special needs children

For us every child is special

* Our doctors attended special pedodontics courses with a length between 24 and 36 months.

* The disabled child has special needs, according to his/her illness (somatic, developmental, psychic, psycho-affective, ambient handicap) and requires a different approach.

* In Romania, children are most often brought to the first dental consult when they already accuse teeth aches.

* In GERMAN DENTIST we have proposed to change this faulty mentality by implementing the Happy KIDS VISIT concept in our clinic dedicated exclusively to the little patients.

What is the optimal visit for a first dental consult?

first visit to the dentist

Since the health and comfort of your child are extremely important, our specialists recommend to schedule the first visit of your child to the dentist when he/she is 1 year old.

Statistics show that the occurrence of the cavities, especially feeding bottle cavities, at very young ages is increasing.

Moreover, it is very important for you, as a parent, to receive advice from the doctor regarding:

• the risk factors for the dental cavity (e.g. putting the child to sleep with a bottle of sweetened milk or juice);
• the possibility of testing the saliva for identifying the potentiality of dental cariogenicity;
• correct brushing techniques and how to teach your child this healthy habit;
• the major impact wrong habits can have upon the dental-maxillary apparatus (thumb sucking, for example).
